The Neff Beach Bash at the Burg was something else man. Sure the weather was less than ideal which made for very few bikini’s…zero actually. That’s ok though Al Pal of the infamous Murder Mitten crew walked around for roughly 20 minutes in patriotic shorts, which may or may not have been boxers. After 20 minutes he did disappear and returned wearing pants. The Murder Mitten guys showed up in force. Al Pal was the guest celebrity judge, Joey Leppien was the MC, and Matt Miller and Tyler May represented the firm as riders. Sure the weather was way to fuckin’ cold for anything having to do with three foot deep pools of water, but that wasn’t gonna stop any of the young lads and ladies determined to take part in the days festivities. Cannonsburg as always provided a fun, interesting, and frankly a visually stressful event setup. Standing sidelined chatting with a few dudes we all laughed before it started and said how stressed out we were by the whole thing. It wasn’t scary, but it really gave you the feeling if you went in you weren’t coming out. I mean you couldn’t see the bottom. I don’t like that shit. Ask any of my friends who have tried to get me to go to those wake parks with super questionable water. Ain’t fuckin’ happening if the water looks any color, but blue I’m not getting in it. Ever see the movie Anaconda where Ice cube got real soft? Yup not me and not a lot of people either. Close to 200 people showed up for this shindig and I am not sure if all of them rode in it. It had to be close, but I strayed off every so often to take some laps and in each park someone I knew would come up to me and be like “I couldn’t do it man” or “ Not feeling it bro”. Ha ha…couldn’t blame ‘em. Regardless though shit went off and was a super good time.
I feel like an entire piece could be written about the skier who did the most textbook scorpion ever. Anyone who was there saw that shit. This skier girl slid 10ft with her toes in front of her eyes. So gnarly! She also lost her skis in the abyss. Numerous skiers who failed to cross the bridge to Terabithia required terrain park worker assistance to fish their two planks from the bottom. This sometimes took minutes. It was pretty funny. The setup wasn’t particularly difficult, but it still managed to consume even the best of the best riders. Lots of good tricks were stomped though fo sho! There were quite a few standout riders that didn’t make it to the winner’s circle or podium or whatever. Evan Erickson I thought was killing it. Kendrick VanEe was real stylish and looked super comfortable as did Jaime Charron. In the end there could only be one… actually a few. The winners were as follows….
1. Matt Miller
2. Rees Bowden
3. Jeremy Vandyke
Best Trick: Brad Doren
Female: Natalie Waldron
Grom: Evan Jackson
Glad Jeremy finally made his way into a winning position. Stoked on his riding. Matt Miller is stupid good. I’ve been saying that for the whole season. He was butchering babies at the season’s first event at Hawk. Dude slays.
Anyways this was an excellent end to Cannonsburg’s season. They have an event in may called Jibs and Salsa, but as far as the season is concerned its ovah! Super grateful for the love that resort has shown MB and I’m personally grateful for the friends and acquaintances I made there this year. I don’t know how they will out do themselves next year, but the raddest thing about that is I know they are gonna try. That’s what’s up!
